How thick of a mattress can you put in it and still close it down?

You can fit a 4 inches thick mattress if you remove the tent’s original mattress. If you keep the original mattress, you can add a 2 inches thick mattress.

What is the height of the tent when closed?

The closed height of the tent itself is approximately 7.1 inches. Adding the roof rack brings the total height to about 4.7 inches. There will be roughly 4 inches of space between the tent and the roof of the car.
