This is a review of the Briskmore convex cycle mirror. Model BT-015R (right-hand side). This is to be fitted on the right-hand side, of your cycle, ideal for UK roads. They also sell them in pairs, but not left-hand side only.
Briskmore is a well-known company and sells a wide range of cycle mirrors. The price reflects the quality.
I have bought various cycle mirrors over my time. Briskmore do make good mirror. It is well-made of plastic of good quality.
The glass on this mirror is good. Some Briskmore mirrors do come in blue glass, but both do their job. The blue variant looks more expensive. However, in terms of use it makes little difference.
I was delighted with this cycle mirror. Things appear very clear.
Fitting: It is easy to install the mirror – it fits inside the handlebar with a diameter of 14-24mm and comes with a allen key, cleaning cloth and spacer parts for different handlebar tube sizes. Before ordering, it's worth checking the sides of your handlebar to ensure a good fit.
Design: The design fits directly into the handle bar. This cycle has a ‘stem’, so it is a little higher.
Safety/Planning: I feel a cycling mirror is an important cycle accessory for safety. It helps you have awareness of cars and other cyclists around you, especially since some electric cars, e-scooters are virtually silent. A cycle mirror allows you to plan ahead – for instance, if a bus pulls into a bus stop, I can quickly check the mirror again and overtake the bus safely. Even in pedestrianised places, it is useful to have one, as you can have a faster cyclist overtake.
Adjusting: Once you've angled the mirror for the best view (which may require some trial and error), tighten it up using the Allen key and it stays put, delivering exactly what it's intended for.
Most cycle mirrors do not come with a quick-release feature, which means there is a slight risk of theft.
I went on a long ride and it was a good mirror. I was happy with its performance. Cycle mirrors can shake on bumpy roads, but this one held up better. I have a folding cycle, and I was pleased that it didn't cause any issues when folding the bike (this is despite it having a stem).
I am very pleased with this product. I can happily recommend it.
